The Project Fix One Six- Chicago community-based program has been transformed into an interactive on-line curriculum based on three modules. It is thoughtfully designed to address building important skills for a successful life. It includes the building blocks for developing empathy, building trust among community members, dispelling stereotypes, and teaching at-risk youth practical skills for positive interaction with law enforcement.
The program focuses on repairing harm through inclusive, on-going processes that involves and engages key members of a community including, but not limited to, adults, children, local business and law enforcement. We are empowering our students to build a community that is worth participating in and preserving. This premise is inherent in many Restorative Justice Programs currently being used in schools throughout the country.
The innovative components of the program encourage inclusive, on-going processes between police officers and youth that gives real insight into behaviors. The theoretical premise underlying the program requires buy-in from our members: Mind Action Determines World Action.
By examining the relationship between officer-situation-offender-interactions and providing training to at-risk youth, we believe that they will build resistance and the capacity to avoid being provoked during routine patrol situations. We believe that when you understand why someone is acting a certain way, you will respond appropriately. We also believe that our internal perceptions, stereotypes and beliefs guide our behavior and interactions with one another in the external world.
